Brexit-Votum? Jetzt erst recht! Die zur Abstimmung gehende Bevölkerung Großbritanniens hat sich mehrheitlich gegen den Verbleib in der EU ausgesprochen. Polen hat eine extrem konservative, nationalgesinnte, wenig freiheitlich denkende Regierung. Ungarn geht es auch nicht besser. Die Österreicher sind gerade knapp einem FPÖ-Präsidenten entgangen. In Deutschland hat die kleingeistige AfD in Umfragen eine sich selbst zerlegende und von vielen kaum mehr ernstgenommene SPD fast eingeholt (Deutschlandtrend vom 02. Juni). In der Türkei und in Russland regieren reaktionäre Autokraten. In den USA könnte ein Präsident Trump drohen. Und auch Hillary Clinton kann kaum als progressive Politikern bezeichnet werden, wenn man sie etwa mit Bernie Sanders vergleicht. Über die anderen Teile der Welt, in denen sich religionsgesteuerte Steinzeitideologen tummeln und die in den von ihnen beherrschten oder beeinflussten Gebieten die Bevölkerung tyrannisieren, braucht man gar nicht erst ein Wort verlieren. Es stellt sich die Frage, warum Menschen offensichtlich politische und gesellschaftliche Entscheidungen treffen, die auf Emotionalität und weniger auf Auseinandersetzung mit Fakten beruhen. Und warum der Ausweg aus der Unzufriedenheit so oft in rückwärtsgewandten Politikmodellen gesucht wird. Das, was derzeit als „politische Mitte“ verkauft wird, stellt sicherlich die Wenigsten zufrieden. Und es ist auch kein Lösungsmodell für die Probleme, die sich stellen. Stattdessen ist es eine Politik, die nur einer kleinen privilegierten Schicht dient. Die immer kleiner werdende Gruppe, die einmal als „Mittelschicht“ bekannt war, profitiert ebenso wenig, wie diejenigen, die sich am unteren Ende der Gesellschaft wiederfinden. Insofern wird diese, in Deutschland gerade von CDU/CSU/SPD betriebene, Politik zu Recht hinterfragt und sollte nicht mehr als Lösungsmodell angesehen werden. Stattdessen muss nach einer „Future to Believe In“ gesucht werden, wie es auch das Motto von Bernie Sanders Kampagne ist. Wir stehen am Scheideweg – und müssen uns zwischen progressiven oder rückständigen Ideen als Alternative zu der bisherigen „politischen Mitte“ entscheiden. Und vielleicht ist der Brexit, vielleicht ist der 23.06. ja tatsächlich ein Weckruf. Aber wahrscheinlich muss man pessimistisch sein und es wird keine „Bewegung 23. Juni“ geben. Trotzdem zeigt gerade der heutige Tag, dass wir uns einbringen müssen, aus unserer privaten Komfortzone raus und für unsere Ideale aktiv einstehen müssen. Auch für uns gibt es keine „perfekte“ politische Organisation oder Partei. Dennoch sind wir heute der Partei Die Grünen beigetreten. Vielleicht wird sich herausstellen, dass wir in einer anderen Organisation besser aufgehoben sein werden. Vielleicht braucht es auch eine komplett neue Organisation, die nicht mit Vorurteilen und Altlasten kämpfen muss. Aber zumindest wollen wir uns von jetzt an unserer privaten kleinen Komfortwelt ein wenig entziehen und uns aktiv engagieren. Das, was die gemeinsame Idee Europas ausmacht (und damit ist nicht das Europa der Märkte und der Wirtschaft gemeint), darf nicht sterben. Wir hoffen, dass auch andere Menschen unserem Beispiel folgen und sich aufmachen, nicht tatenlos zuzusehen, wie Ideale wie Solidarität, Gemeinwohl und Toleranz langsam zerbröseln. Brexit? Now let’s get serious! The majority of people who voted yesterday in Great Britain opted for leaving the EU. The government of Poland consists of extremely conservative, nationalist politicians who can hardly be seen as embracing democratic values. The government of Hungary has a similar view on the world. The population of Austria escaped a FPÖ president only by a very narrow margin. In France the Front National has been a constantly strong factor for many years. In Germany the reactionary AfD almost caught up in recent polls with a social democratic party which is trapped in self-destruction and is barely taken seriously anymore by a lot of people. In Turkey and Russia reactionary autocrats are heads of state. The United States of America faces the danger of a Trump presidency. And even Hillary Clinton can be hardly seen as a progressive politician – especially in comparison with Bernie Sanders. Not to mention other parts of the world with their religious fanatics and damaging ideologies that break the lives of entire communities. Of course, the question arises why people take decisions based on fear and anger instead of facts and informed opinions. Also the question arises why discontent so often resorts to seeking sanctuary in backward-looking policy ideas and supporting narrow-minded organizations (often not even in accordance with the needs of the people voting for them). What is sold today as “political middle” is probably not a very satisfying approach for a lot of people. And it is most likely not an option for solving the problems at hand. Instead it is a policy favoring only a very small margin of the population. The ever declining group once called the “middle class” is profiting as little from it as the group finding itself squeezed to the bottom of the society. Taking this into account, questioning the hegemonic policy – in Germany for example especially carried out by the Christian and Social Democrats – is only consequent. This kind of policy simply cannot be anymore seen as a problem solving approach. What is needed instead is to explore ways into a „Future to Believe In“, as states the motto of the Bernie Sanders Campaign in the US. We are at crossroads and we must decide between reactionary and progressive ideas to replace the “political middle” that many people don’t trust anymore. Maybe the decision for the Brexit, maybe this 23 rd of June is indeed a wake-up call. Probably we have to remain pessimistic about a “Movement 23 rd of June”. But even if this pessimism is warranted: this day shows us that we have to start being involved much more, that we have to leave our private comfort zone and that we have to stand up for our ideals. Like for so many other people, also for us – Joanna Chojnicka and Norman Laws – there is no “perfect” political organization or party. But despite of this, we both joined the Green Party today. Maybe it will turn out that another organization will fit us better in the future. Maybe what is needed is a completely new organization, a progressive movement, which doesn’t have to deal with prejudices and legacy issues. But we want at least to make a small step out of our little comfortable world and show some commitment and dedication. The idea of Europe as we see it is not a Europe of the markets or of the economy, it is a Europe of the people, a Europe of solidarity and tolerance, a common idea embracing the best mankind can offer. Brexit? To teraz na poważnie! Większość wyborców biorących udział we wczorajszym referendum w Zjednoczonym Królestwie zagłosowała za opuszczeniem EU. Polski rząd składa się z ekstremalnie konserwatywnych polityków o nacjonalistycznych skłonnościach, którzy zdają się nie wierzyć demokratycznym wartościom. Rząd Węgier ma podobny pogląd na świat. Mieszkańcy Austrii ledwo uniknęli prezydenta z Wolnościowej Partii Austrii (FPÖ). Francuski Front Narodowy z roku na rok zyskuje na znaczeniu. W Niemczech, reakcyjna partia AfD prawie zrównała się w sondażach z socjaldemokratami, którzy najwyraźniej wstąpili na drogę ku autodestrukcji i których coraz mniej osób traktuje poważnie. Turcji i Rosji przewodzą reakcyjni autokraci. Stanom Zjednoczonym Ameryki poważnie zagraża prezydentura Donalda Trumpa. Jego główna oponentka Hillary Clinton nie ma nic wspólnego z polityką progresywną – szczególnie w porównaniu z Bernie Sandersem. Nie wspominając już nawet o innych częściach świata, gdzie fanatycy religijni, kierowani wyniszczającymi ideologiami, łamią życie całym społecznościom. Oczywiste w tym kontekście staje się pytanie, dlaczego ludzie podejmują decyzje powodowane strachem i złością, a nie analizą faktów i bazujących na nich opinii. Kolejne pytanie to: dlaczego niezadowoleni tak często szukają schronienia w regresywnej polityce i wspieraniu konserwatywnych organizacji (często działających wbrew interesom i potrzebom osób na nie głosujących). To, co sprzedawane jest nam dzisiaj jako „polityka środka”, jest nie do zaakceptowania dla wielu osób, i nie pomaga w rozwiązywaniu trapiących dziś ludzkość problemów. Jest to raczej polityka faworyzująca bardzo niewielką część populacji. Nieustannie kurcząca się grupa niegdyś zwana „klasą średnią” zyskuje na niej tak mało, jak grupa konsekwentnie wypierana na sam spód społeczeństwa. Kwestionowanie dominującej linii politycznej – realizowanej na przykład w Niemczech przez chrześcijańskich demokratów i socjaldemokratów – jest oczywistym następstwem tej sytuacji. Obecnej polityki nie da się już dłużej tolerować. Zamiast tego musimy podjąć wysiłek, by uczestniczyć w budowaniu „przyszłości, w którą chcemy wierzyć”, jak głosi motto kampanii prezydenckiej Bernie Sandersa w USA. Stoimy dziś na rozdrożu – musimy wybrać pomiędzy regresywnymi i postępowymi ideami, aby zastąpić „polityczny środek”, który utracił resztki naszego zaufania. Być może decyzja podjęta przez Brytyjczyków 23. czerwca jest wezwaniem do pobudki. Możliwe, że niewielkie są szanse sukcesu „ruchu 23. czerwca”. Lecz nawet jeśli pesymizm jest uzasadniony, ten dzień pokazuje nam dobitnie, że musimy zaangażować się znacznie bardziej, że musimy opuścić nasze prywatne strefy komfortu i stanąć w obronie naszych idei. Podobnie jak dla wielu innych osób, również dla nas nie ma obecnie partii czy organizacji idealnej. Mimo to, wstąpiliśmy dzisiaj do Partii Zielonych. Być może w przyszłości okaże się, że bardziej odpowiada nam inna partia. Może czego potrzebujemy to zupełnie nowa organizacja, ruch progresywny nieobciążony bagażem przeszłości. Lecz dzisiaj, chcemy przynajmniej zrobić jeden krok poza naszą strefę komfortu i pokazać trochę zaangażowania i poświęcenia. Ideą Europy nie jest dla nas wspólnota rynków czy unia gospodarcza, lecz wspólnota ludzka, Europa solidarna i tolerancyjna, łącząca wszystko to, co w nas, ludziach, jest najlepsze. Liczymy na to, że inni podążą naszym śladem i przestaną przyglądać się z pobocza, gdy waży się los wartości takich jak solidarność i wspólne dobro. Joanna Chojnicka Norman Laws Bremen, 24.06.2016
